Agam POV
'How could you marry her?'
Ekansh asks her as he leans on the wall. The way he is itching on his arm means that anxiety is getting to him.
He needs a smoke or a full glass of alcohol.
I look at Viraj to find him also staring at Ekansh. We have to wrap up this conversation fast.
Divij says,
'The agreement between our fathers had been to marry their son to their daughter, they didn't specify whether older brother or younger brother to marry.'
I don't think it has been easy for him to marry which he proves by saying,
'My brother would have never let me marry her, if I had acted like I wanted her, because marrying her means he can get coronated as whoever marries her will not only be the King of Himadari but also of Narmi empire, the empire of my wife.'
Just like I thought, he would act to it.
He further says,
'So I let all happen but on the wedding day, I attacked him, tied him up and left him in a lone place in Himadari with his all belongings then took his place in the mandap.'
Reva ji says with a shy smile,
'Humne jab inhe dekha inke bhai ki jagah toh humari maa ne iss shaadi se mana kar diya par humne pitaji ki yaad dilake shaadi hone di.
'When I saw him in place of his brother, my mother refused the marriage but I reminded her about my father, which made her to allow the marriage to take place.
Poori shaadi mein inhone humari or ek baar bhi nahi dekha, hume lagne laga ki, ek kroor insaan ko chhod ke dusre kroor insaan se vivaah karne jaa rahe hai.'
He did not look at us even once during the entire marriage, making us feel that I was leaving one cruel person and going to marry another cruel person.'
She looks at him lovingly then says,
'Par shaadi ke baad inhone jitna samman hume diya utna unke bhai hume kabhi de bhi nahi sakte the, wo toh iss samman ke bare mein soch bhi nahi sakte the.'
'But after marriage, his brother could never give me the respect that he gave me, he could not even think of this respect.'
Divij smiles and says,
'When my brother came back, I had been already married and coronated, no one supported him because all the ministers got to know about that he killed our father.'
He heaves a heavy sigh then says,
'He is my brother so I gave him the money that he could comfortably live for 6 months and told him to leave Himadari, he left with fire in his eyes for me.'
Ekansh suddenly says,
'Aapne usse ungli pakdaayi aur usne aapka pura haath hi pakad liya. Aapne uske jeene ka bandobast kiya aur usne uss samay mein aapke jeevan ko khatam karne ka bandobast kiya.'
'You gave him a finger and he took your entire hand. You made arrangements for his survival and he made arrangements to end your life during that time.'
Viraj speaks after being quiet for so long,
'Whatever happened had happened 2 years ago then why Ambari's King is coming after you now.'
Divij gives a self deprecating laugh and says,
'He just wants a chance to show us down thats all and he won't leave a chance presented to him on a silver platter.'
I nod my head in understanding but it just means that convincing Ambari to back out is going to be difficult.
I look at Viraj to find the same conclusion on his face.
We stand up and Divij says,
'I think its time that you all rest after such a long journey and we will further have talk on this topic tomorrow.'
Viraj nods and says,
'My soldiers had already dispatched on my 3rd day of journey, they will arrive in 2 days.'
Divij gives a relived smile and escort us to our room.
Looking at Ekansh reminds me something and I say,
'We really enjoyed Jhol, we would really like some of that to relax for the evening.'
He nods and Reva ji goes from there to make the preparations.
He shows our room on the second floor with long gallery. When he goes away, we three gather in my room after sometime.
We are sitting in my room when attendees enter with the Jhol in their hands.
They keep it on the table then serve us, I tell them to leave us then pour Ekansh a full glass.
As soon as the attendees leave, he takes the glass and finish it in one swig.
He sits down after that and leans his head back while we give him the space to collect his thoughts.
After sometime, he sits up and says,
'I don't think that Ambari's king would back out, he has waited for this opportunity, he won't let it pass from his hand.'
Viraj nods his head then we become lost in our thoughts.
Viraj looks at me and says,
'You got on to wrong conclusion really very fast.'
I sigh wearily, I am ashamed of how I reacted there.
I answer,
'He phrased like that only, how am I supposed to react?'
Not meeting their eyes. Ekansh looks at me intently and says,
'You remembered your situation with Mohini, didn't you?'
I glare at him but he just smirks, I sigh and say,
'You can say that, but this has explanation, my situation still doesn't have any explanation which I can understand.'
Viraj frowns and asks me as he pours in our glass,
'What do you want to know? You already have a beautiful and caring wife.'
I answer while thinking about our marriage,
'I still haven't got the answer whether Mohini knew about our marriage or that deceit or not, why Pankaj Rao wanted us to get married?'
Ekansh ponders on my statement and says,
'There are still some unanswered questions which can impact your marriage life greatly.'
I know that and I am afraid of getting the answers because it can impact my life with her.
I ask Viraj when a thought strucks me,
'Mohini had given me a letter which I handed to you, maybe that letter can tell us many things because I am sure it was not the list of her needs.'
Viraj asks in confusion,
'But I already told you that I lost the letter that day only.'
I look at him then nod and say,
'Maybe when you go back, you can try to find that letter.'
Beweildered he says,
'You want me to find a letter after so many days which can be lost in those 10 days journey and then my return journey to Jyotsar.'
I nod and he shakes his head in disbelief while saying,
'It looks like that alcohol has got to your brain too much.'
He looks at Ekansh who is completely drunk and says,
'Lets go, we have to wake up early to meet Ambari's king.'
Ekansh follows him suit but he says one last thing before leaving,
'Maybe you should try to talk to Mohini about this and she could tell you easily.'
Then he walks out with Viraj.
Its not like I haven't considered it but I am afraid of the answer, afraid of losing her.
I change into my night cotton pyajamas and lie down thinking about Mohini and the truth behind our marriage.
This marriage had put a pit stop to my revenge plan but returning back I have to get back on my former plan.
To destroy Pankaj Rao.
I had taken the control of my empire back from inside to border, then pulled main empires out from helping him by annexing them leaving him alone.
The small empires trade has been hit widely by me which made them useless for Pankaj Rao.
Which would have come in circle on Pankaj Rao on my last hit after becoming king but he already felt his doom.
That's why he married me to his daughter but it won't stop my plan, it delayed for sure but not stopped.
I drift off to sleep with million thoughts running in my head.
Next morning, I am just getting ready for the meetup with the King of Ambari.
Viraj and Ekansh enter my room with Divij fully ready.
I wear the last piece of jewellery then greet them as they greet me in return. Divij comes forward and says,
'I have made the preparations for your journey across the river dividing our Himadari.'
I nod my head.
Ambari's king and Divij's brother has set up their tent there, they have already captured half of the Himadari without telling them.
I don't like people who hide and attack, which is what they both have done.
He leaves to look is everything in proper or not, he is also sending his chief soldier with us to ensure our safety.
I look at Viraj and say,
'Hum jab Ambari ke raja se baat karenge tab ek baat dhyan mein rakhna hai ki hum ye nahi bolenge ki tumne Divij ke saath ek baar ke liye maukhik samjhauta kiya hai aur, hum dono iske sakshi the.'
'When we talk to the king of Ambari, one thing should be kept in mind that we should not tell him that you have made a verbal agreement with Divij for once, and we both witnessed it.'
He frowns at that and asks me,
'What would it achieve?'
Before I can explain, Ekansh says,
'Agar humne ye kaha ki tumhara sirf ek baar ka samjhauta tha, toh woh iss baar jaan bujh ke harenge taaki agli baar aap unki madad na kar paye.'
'If we said that your agreement was only for one time, then he would deliberately lose this time so that you would not be able to help Divij next time.'
He ponders over it and nods his head.
Before following out I say a last thing,
'I know its your agreement and all but just let me lead in this situation. One more thing don't let them know that we know whole story about their marriage.
We only know that he wanted her so he married her, that's all we know.'
He just says,
'I will let you lead in any situation you ask me to, I won't be ever offended.'
We reach the entrance of palace to find Divij and Reva ji there.
She touches our forehead with red teeka then rotates the aarti plate in circular motion in front of us.
She hands the plate to the attendee beside her then takes a small bowl from her and forwards the spoon.
We become perplexed at that not understanding what she wants us to do.
She sees our confusion and explains with a smile,
'Humare yaha kisi bhi bade kaam se pehle, uss kaam ko karne wale ka munh meetha karte hai, dahi cheeni se.'
'Here, before any big work, the mouth of the person doing that work is sweetened with curd and sugar.'
We nod our head in understanding and she feeds us one spoon of sweet curd.
They move back and wish us success for this.
We mount our horses and the soldiers start to lead us towards the enemy's tent.
After half day we reach there and cross the bridge after getting approval from there.
Soldier chief comes forward and ask us trying to intimidate us,
'Reason for travel here.'
Ekansh replies,
'We are here to meet Ambari's king, we had sent the letter about our arrival today.'
He nods his head then leads us to the tent, surely the King's tent.
When he sees us entering, he sends his ministers away and stands up then greet us as we greet in return.
He leads us inside and makes us sit then calls for attendees to bring welcome drink.
He looks at me with leery smile and say,
'Congratulations Agam on your coronation.'
I give him a stiff smile, nod my head to show him that I acknowledged his congratulations.
I look at Ekansh and Viraj looking at him disgust on their face when they look at me, I shake my head a little to indicate them to control their expressions.
I can understand their disgust. I am also disgusted by his appearance.
He has gotten unfit that's for sure plus his appearance is so mused like he haven't taken bath and indulged himself in pleasure and intoxication.
His eyes are bleary and red with his face having dark circles under his eyes.
His face has gone pale yellow losing all the shine that a King of a big and successful empire has.
His attendees enter and serve us alcoholic welcome drink but I don't indulge in them.
Neither does Viraj and Ekansh. The minute attendees leave I come straight to point,
'Hum chahte hai ki aap Himadari ke virudh jo jung unke bhai kar rahe hai, aap usme apna samarthan hata le.'
'We want you to withdraw your support from the war that his brother is waging against Himdari.'
He looks shocked that I came onto the point which doesn't give him the time to redirect the argument.
I also emphasis on that this war is between Divij and his brother.
He recovers from the shock,
'Well I expected that you will ask this from me, but you got to the point straight.'
I lean back comfortably and say seriously,
'I don't believe in beating around the bush, I like straight talks and straight talking people.'
He composes himself and says,
'Agar hum apna samarthan hata le toh kya aap bhi apna samarthan hatenge.'
'If we withdraw my support, will you also withdraw your support?'
Without missing a beat I answer,
'Yes, me and Ekansh will back out but Viraj won't.'
He frowns at that and says,
'Aapko yaad dilane ki avashyakta toh nahi hai, par phir bhi aap sabko yaad dilade ki aisi parsthiti mein dono taraf se samjhaute wale rajya apna samarthan pichhe le lete hai.'
'There is no need to remind you, but still let me remind everyone that in such a situation, the states that are in treaty, from both sides take their support back.'
I nod my head not showing any emotion which unnerves him as he expected different reaction, I reply,
'I know, but Viraj has to honor his verbal agreement to the King of Himadari.'
He frowns at that and sits up then asks me,
'What type of agreement?'
I answer honestly,
'Agreement signed by death.'
His eyes widen at that because he knows how important that type of deal is for a King.
If someone saves life of King or potential King and if that person asks for a promise at his almost deathbed then the King has to honor it.
Or he is not taken seriously.
He ponders over and says,
'Who is the witness of this agreement between them?'
I tell him,
'Me and Ekansh.'
He knows now that he can't screw us over, he asks me the question which I know his last resort to not agree with us,
'I have given Avij solace that I will support him in his fight against the unfairness done to him, can you tell me what is the agreement?'
I tell him with some manipulated truth,
'That agreement is between them but the summary is that Viraj and his kingdom will help Divij Rai Singh as well as Himadari whenever they ask for.'
He is in distress now as he can't seem to find out the loop hole in that.
Now is the time to address his first set of statement,
'You said that unfairness is done to Avij?'
His face has gone white but I continue as if I didn't see his pale white face,
'But from what I am told, the agreement between two former kings was that princess of Narmi will marry prince of Himadari and that prince will become the King of Himadari.
And Divij liked the princess so he married her and that's why he become the King. The rumour is that Avij killed his own father for crown, so I see only justice here.'
There is quick relief knowing that I don't know about his involvement in that.
He won't let this opportunity slip by him to prove himself out of that so he can clear his name.
He quickly nods his head while gulping heavily and says,
'I had no idea about this agreement between Himadari and Narmi, if I had I would never have supported Avij.'
Ekansh says not able to control himself for being quiet so long,
'Now you know so what you are going to do.'
I am shocked how he was able to stop himself from speaking for so long.
He is cornering him and he can take a decision which won't favour us and I say trying to be pleasant,
'I will wait for your answer, until you have definitive answer I will stay here only in Himadari, you take your time in deciding.'
Quick heavy pressure make people do random things but calculated increasing pressure make people realise that they have nowhere to turn.
Then they easily give into your demands.
We three stand up then start moving out after bidding farewell.
Viraj and Ekansh are in front just as I leave his tent, I feel a piercing pain in my back which twists.
I turn back to find Avij, I recognise him from his potrait in the palace.
The pain turns into throbbing burning pain which rises to my spine to my head, making me lightheaded.
Viraj and Ekansh rush to me while I look at the smirking face of Avij. Someone takes out the dagger from my back.
My eyesight start going blurry as pain blindside me with flow of blood.
Chaos erupts around me but I move to him, he sees me coming and he takes out his sword to attack but I block him by holding his wrist.
I painfully twist making his smirk vanish as his sword drops from his hand.
I take out my dagger which he tries to block but I spin him by his wrist.
I throw my dagger upward to change my hand holding his wrist, taking the dagger in right hand.
Then takes his both of his wrists in my left hand and pull him towards me from the right side.
With right hand I start stabbing him multiple times from the side on his chest to his legs, making sure to stab in places where it will hurt most but he won't die.
The adrenaline flowing in me makes me ignore the pain.
He screams by the multiple stabs on him, then I leave his wrists with a force which makes him fall down.
He screams in pain while blood flow from his body.
The adrenaline leaves my body which returns the pain tenfold and I collapse praying to God that I don't die.
So that I can keep my promise to my Mohini.
