22. Mohini Finds A Clue

Mohini POV

I am pacing in my room waiting for Naina.

I had convinced her to take me to Chaar bazaar of Suryagarh because Swati told me its very famous here.

It took me all day because she thought Yuvraj won't let us go when coronation is so close.

So I suggested that she should take permission from Bapusaa.

She has been gone for so long. Did she got the permission or not? Did Bapusaa figured out why I want to go Chaar Bazaar?

Swati sits after pacing with me so long and says tiredly,

'Bai-sa, I think you are getting worried for no reason.'

I stop and glare at her when door opens with a bang and angry Yuvraaj enters seeking me with his eyes, no doubt.

Swati also stands up in fear but Yuvraj's sole focus is on me.

He gets closer to me and pushes me against the wall asking with anger,

'What are you playing at? Why do you want to go ?'

I look at Swati over his shoulder and she comes to me. There is no space between us so I sign at the side for Swati to see it,

'I am not playin at anything. I want to see the famous bazaar of my own empire. Don't I have that much freedom?'

He snarls,

'You and I both know that what you are saying is complete lie. You are going there to satisfy your stupid obsession without thinking about you own safety.'

I sign in anger,

'Who will hurt me?'

After Swati translates. I point finger at him angrily to say, 'You?'

He understands it, his eyes widen and he pushes off from me, he runs his finger through his hair when he says in a raw voice,

'Aapko chot pahuchane se achha hai ki hum apne aap ko maut dena pasand karenge.'

'I would rather kill myself than hurt you.'

His tone and words tugs at my heart but I harden it and sign,

'But you have already hurt me too much. How long are you going to see all my actions as me being your enemy, Yuvraj?'

He flinches at that, it is very small compared to amount of pain he has given me.

He looks at me with pain filled eyes and order,

'Leave us alone for sometime.'

Swati bows her head to him and leaves us alone.

He blanks his face and asks in a monotone voice,

'So you want to go Chaar Bazaar.'

His words sounded like he was telling me instead of asking me but I still nod my head warily, holding my breath in.

He nods his head and say,

'Okay, you can go.'

I release my breath in relief. He sees it and say,

'But,'

I tense again waiting for his condition. He continues,

'I will arrange  for soldiers group to keep an eye on both of you and don't do anything stupid, Mohini which can jeopardize your safety. I can't come with you because Bua-sa has taken the promise from me that I won't leave the palace until coronation unless our people needs us.'

I nod my head. I can work with that.

He comes closer and wounds his hand around my waist, bringing me closer to him.

My breathing becomes shallow while my heart beat races. I curse myself for my reaction.

He brings his face close to me and says,

'You have to give me one promise, Mohini.'

I nod my head without even listening. His pupils has become even more darker and dilated.

He brings his rough cheeks against my soft ones, rubbing them against my soft ones sensually, my eyes close on their own because of these sensations.

I always like it when he do this and he says,

'Hum aapko jis halat mein bhej rahe, aap ussi halat mein wapas aani chahiye, bina kisi kharoch ke.'

'You should return in the same condition in which I am sending you, without any scratch.'

My eyes opened at that, he pulls his face back when I see the vulnerability shining in there.

He cups one side of my face tenderly then he says with fierce voice,

'Kyunki agar aapko kuch bhi hua toh hum iss puri duniya ko jala ke raakh kar denge.'

'Because if anything happens to you, I will burn this entire world to ashes.'

His words and emotions jolts me from inside and outside and I look at him with wide and shocked eyes.

He has said that with so much fiercenes that I almost believed him but then I remember how Rao used to manipulate me with his words.

But still his words and emotions chipped at the barrier around my heart very badly.

It seems like my heart always melt and harden by his words. One time he is making me hate him and other time he is making me want to love him.

Love him? No, can't take that risk at love and that to with him.

To make him step back I nod my head vigourisly. The vulnerability vanishes and in place there is amusement.

He smirks at me then slowly cups my face with both hands and rubs his thumbs on either side of my lower lip.

Tracing it sensually making my breathe hitch and eyes rolling back. He brings his face close to me and says,

'Hume pyaas lagi hai Mohini, aapki anumati ho toh apni pyaas bujha le inse.'

'I am thirsty Mohini, if you allow, I can quench my thirst with these.'

And taps on my lips. His words register in my brain and I stumble back from him.

Looking at my state he smirks devilishly at me. Good to see that he just can't help himself acting all dirty.

Who says these types of things to anyone?

I glare at him and back away at the door so I can keep my eyes on him so he doesn't come close and surprise me.

He is holding back his laugh badly. After coming out of his room, I find Swati standing there with worried expression.

But after seeing my expression her lips starts to twitch to form a smile. I glare at her and move towards Naina's chamber.

When I enter in there, I don't find Naina in there, I heard a amused voice behind me,

'I was going to tell you Bai-sa but you just glared at me and moved to Rajkumari's chamber in a hurry.'

I turn to her and glare at her like that it is her fault that I wasted my time coming here.

Her smile becomes even more bigger.

I sign at her,

'I thought your loyalty lies with me.'

She smiles wide and says,

'Yes, it does.'

I sign at her angrily,

'I should just treat you how other Queens treat their helpers as a punishment. I have kept you on my head too much that is why you dare to speak back to me.'

Her smile becomes even more wide and says,

'Nah you just love me too much Bai-sa that you will never treat me like that.'

She is right but I huff and mock glare at her then walk out from there to palace entrance.

Naina looks at me and her eyes light up, she excitedly comes up to me and says,

'I can't believe Agam agreed to this. We will have so much fun in there. I am going to show you all my favourite things and things that are speciality of here like, 'Ret Kalaa'.

I frown not understanding but smile at her enthusiasm and step into my palaquin with Swati.

Our journey and soon we reached the heart of bazaar. It was maybe an hour long journey.

I follow Naina and she shows me sarees and lehengas made here, jewelleries but my eyes seek out the opportunity to escape here.

The soldiers follow us everywhere not giving me an inch of space to escape.

We sit down under a tree for some time after roaming for so long, a soldier brings something Naina takes it eagerly and says to me,

'Let me introduce you to one of my favourite street food here, pyaaz kachori.'

I try it and absolutely love it. After finishing it, Naina looks at me with a serious face and asks me,

'Now Mohini, tell me the real reason behind us being here.'

I jerk back at her question and try to lie, I sign,

'What are you saying? I came here to see the famous bazaar of Suryagarh.'

She looks at me, which completely screams that I don't trust you. She says,

'You haven't even tried to look at the market or the things here, not even tried to buy or show interest in anything, you are just looking here and there like you are trying to escape.

So I am going to repeat my question. Why are we here?'

I can't lie to her anymore. I will feel guilty, she has supported me so many times, she deserves the truth, at least one part of it.

The second part is for me and Dada to know only.

So I indicate Swati to tell her everything we found so far.

Swati tells her everything and with each revelation makes her eyes become wider.

Naina abruptly stands up and says,

'Then let's go and find out the truth.'

Swati and I look at each other, she shrugs, we also stand up.

But instead of going, Naina narrows her eyes at me and asks,

'Why didn't you tell Agam about this?'

Swati speaks up that we told him about everything. But she asks,

'Then why did you hide from Agam about coming here?'

Because I want to know that if these ministers are the ones who killed my mother 9 years ago on the ask of Bapusaa.

And Yuvraj knows all about it and told me to stay away from the matter.

But I can't tell her that. At my lack of response, Naina's eyes become wide and she asks in a whisper,

'Do you doubt Agam and Raja-sa, Mohini?'

I don't want to completely lie to her, so I just shrug. Her eyes become wide, then she turns to Swati and asks her,

'Do you also? Your loyalty should lie with Suryagarh and Agam?'

Swati replies,

'We are doubting only, Rajkumari ji, nothing else. And my loyalty lies with Bai-sa first, then anyone else, even Yuvraj said that I have to think about her first.'

I turn shocked at her words, but I cover up. Surely she just said that to make Naina back off from her, Yuvraj never said this, I know.

Naina looks at us for a beat, then asks,

'Where does he live?'

Swati tells her the address. Naina turns to the soldier and says,

'We want to go towards the 'Ret Kala' section of the bazaar.'

He nods and we move towards the section.

We enjoyed the art for a bit then Naina turns to a soldier and says,

'I know someone who lives here. I want him to meet Bai-sa.'

Soldier looks unsure and says,

'Yuvraj asked us to make sure you all don't go anywhere other than Chaar Bazaar and don't talk to anyone.'

Naina replies,

'We are not going far and it will be quick meetup, you all can stand outside.'

Before he can protest Naina tells him,

'I am telling you that, not asking you, got it.'

She turns to us and whispers,

'Swati, you better know his address correctly.'

Swati nods her head and starts to direct us. She looks around for a bit, then counts the houses, stops, and points at the furthest house from the bazaar.

It is kind of isolated. We move towards the house. We find that the house's door is slightly ajar.

Seeing this, Naina frowns and knocks on the door,

'Koi hai? Amar Kaka? Hum Naina hai aapko kisi se milwana chahte hai.'

'Is anyone there? Amar Kaka? I am Naina and want to introduce you to someone.'

I frown at the familiarity in her tone. She sees my frown and says,

'I know him and came to meet him many times when I was younger, but then he used to live in the house closer to the palace.'

When no response comes, she tells the soldiers to wait here, grab my hand, and enter the house before anyone can protest.

We find that there is no one.

This is odd. If he left the home, then why didn't he lock the house?

We move deeper into house and Naina calls for him, when we turn a corner we heard a gurgling sound.

We looked at each other and followed the sound to find a person lying on the floor, shaking violently and gurgling on his saliva.

Naina cries out,

'Amar Kaka?'

She sits beside him and lifts his head and looks in his eyes asking,

'Who did this to you?'

She looks around helplessly, I turn to Swati and sign,

'Go and tell one of the soldiers to bring a doctor as soon as possible.'

She looks undecided, she doesn't want to leave me but I shoo her away with my hand.

I see something fisted in his hand, I crouch and pry the thing from his hand.

It is blank paper, but when I whiff and touch the residue, it tells me that slow poison was used on him by someone.

By Yuvraj or by someone he sent here. But he doesn't know where we are, right?

I know no one could save him so I move to Naina and indicate towards him. She frowns not understanding.

Swati tells from behind,

'Bai-sa wants you to ask the question for which we came here.'

At this she glares at me and says,

'You can wait till we save him, Mohini. He isn't in a state to tell us anything.'

I tell her about the poison I found in his hand, through Swati, she shakes her head then ask him,

'Amar Kaka do you know about the deaths of 3 and 11 years ago?'

He doesn't answer but shake more violently.

I indicate to Swati to come closer and translate my signs,

'I am Mohini Agam Surya Chauhan, future queen of Suryagarh and former princess of Malwa.'

At this his shaking intensified and eyes widen even more. Naina doesn't notice because she moves out to check how long doctor will take.

I further questioned,

'You knew what was going on during these deaths, don't you? You were there 9 years ago also in Devara, right?'

He tries to move but starts to choke on his saliva. He is going to die soon, but his reaction told me the truth, but not the reason.

I sign,

'Who did this to you?'

His hand came on my hand and I felt something digging in my hand. I opened my palm to find a ring with a blue stone.

I see he raises his other hand and points towards Swati.

Her eyes widen at that, and she starts to say,

'Bai-sa, I didn't know about him until you told me. I didn't do anything to him. Please believe me.'

I don't focus on her but a small box behind her. I stand up and move towards it, take it in my hand. I look at him with box in my hand and he gives me a small nod.

His eyes close, and I know he died. I am certain someone knew I was coming here and killed him.

The doctor came and announced him dead.

When Naina come to ask me that did he told me anything but I deny it because I want to keep this discovery to me.

We sat in our palaquin to go back to the palace.

Swati looks at me with fear filled face, so I ease her worries by telling her my discoveries and that he was pointing at the box not at her.

She asks,

'What is it?'

I sign after trying to open it,

'It is one of those puzzle locks, but I will find the solution later. Do me a favour and keep it with you?'

She nods and takes the things.

I don't know why, but it looks like I have seen that ring before, someone wearing it.

I don't know but so long of roaming in the bazaar and all the drama has exhausted me and I fall asleep in the palaquin.

After some time, I feel someone lifting me and saying with a gruff voice,

'Not waking her up, she has enough for today, and she is exhausted.'

I fall asleep again.

I see the ring in his hand who is sliting my mother's throat while looking at me with that evil smile.

I try to scream but no voice come out, desperately I try to cry out but then I hear a voice which doesn't belong there.

I follow it and open my eyes to find myself in my room, where Yuvraj is talking to Swati.

He sees that I woke up and looks at me with an expressionless face. I know now that he knew my plan all along.

I thought he knew about me finding out about the deaths of 3 and 11 years ago, but he knew that I was going to find answers to 9 years ago too. So I ask him by signing,

'You knew where I was going, right?'

Swati turns shocked and translates it to him. He replies,

'Ji'

'Yes'

I then sign,

'You had him killed, didn't you? So I can't know the truth that you are hiding.'

Swati's eyes bug out, but translates to him.

Finally, an expression comes on his face. His eyes flash with anger and he says with gritted teeth,

'Get Out!!'

Swati fearfully leaves us.

The moment doors close, he is on me and says angrily,

'Aapne humse vaada kiya tha ki aapko kuch nahi hoga, par aapko pata hai hume kaisa laga jab humare sainik hume ye bataye ki aap kisike ghar mein hai, aur wo insaan mar raha hai.'

'You promised me that you wouldn't be hurt, but you know how I felt when my soldiers told me that you were in someone's house, and that person was dying.'

He fists my hair tightly but not painfully and tugs my face closer,

'Pehle gussa aaya phir darr laga ki kahin aapko kuch na ho jae.'

'First, I got angry, and then I was afraid that something might happen to you.'

He rests his forehead on mine, but the anger is no less when he says,

'Hume pata tha ki aap kaha jaa rahi hai, kisliye jaa rahi, hume aapki chinta hai par iska matlab ye nahi ki hum kisi ki jaan le lenge.'

'I knew where you were going, why you were going, I was worried about you, but that doesn't mean I will kill someone.'

He pushes away from me and says in a monotone voice,

'You say that I look at you and judge you every time like an enemy, but you yourself are doing this to me.'

He turns his back on me and says,

'I am not stopping you from finding the truth, but I am protecting you. But I think you are also lying to me.'

He takes a breath and continues,

'Aapne kaha ki aap Suryagarh se judi har baat jana chati hai, par aap jo jaana chati hai woh Suryagarh ya uski parashasan se bilkul bhi nahi juda, hai na?'

'You said that you want to know everything related to the Suryagarh, but what you want to know is not at all related to the Suryagarh or its administration, right?'

Saying this last bit, and walks out. He doesn't come to our room all night.

His words make me doubt whether what I find is even true or not.

If it is not, I will soon find out.

I eat food alone and sleep alone.

The next day, Swati asks me about the ring, and I tell her,

'I remember about this ring now.'
