14. Agam and Mohini Spends Time Together

Agam POV

I move towards Bapusaa's chamber; his reaction to the whole of this situation is quite unnerving.

Earlier when Bua-sa said that I don't accept her as my wife, it bothered me and seeing her head down in shame made something pinch my heart.

I should be happy but instead on my own accord I made a bite and fed it to her to indicate I take her as my wife.

I justify that she can be innocent but inside some feeling tells me it doesn't matter if she is inoocent or not, I will still accept her as my wife, and that feeling I am denying.

And then all these feelings got a cold shower seeing my mother's bracelet.

All those feelings of hatred came with full force, I can't afford to have these feelings whether she is innocent or not.

I enter his chamber, announcing my presence. He is sitting on the deewan, going over some scrolls. He looks and smiles at me, says,

'Aap humse milne aaye wo bhi raat mein? Iss waqt toh aapko apni biwi ke saath hona chaiye.'

'You came to meet me and that too at night? At this time, you should be with your wife.'

I can't understand why he doesn't look even little bit sad or disappointed instead sending us to get blessing for our marriage.

Instead of beating around bush, I ask him directly,

'Kya karne ki soch rahe hai aap? Hume toh laga aapko dukh pahucha hoga, sadma laga hoga, iss dhokhe se par aap toh khush dikh rahe hai, Naina ko bula kar uphaar pasand kara rahe hai Mohini ke liye.'

'What are you thinking of doing? I thought that you must have been hurt, shocked, and despite this deception you are looking so happy, you are calling Naina and making her choose perfect gift for Mohini.'

Bapusaa leaves the scrolls, stands up, and comes close to me. He says with a smile,

'Hume kyun dukh pahunchega ya sadma lagega jab sab humare hisaab se ho raha hai?'

'Why should I feel hurt or shocked when everything is going my way?'

I frown at him, confused as everything has gone against his dreams, so I ask him,

'Matlab?'

'Meaning?'

He smiles at me, turns around, and puts his work away while saying,

'Matlab ye ki kal savera hote hi aapko aur Mohini ko Kuldevta ke mandir jana hai isliye abhi jaiye jaake so jaaiye.'

'It means that you and Mohini have to go to the family deity temple early tomorrow morning, so go and sleep now.'

He is getting ready for sleep. But he didn't answer my question, so I tried once again,

'But Bapusaa-'

He interrupts me sternly,

'It will take one day to reach mandir, but it will be exhausting, so go and rest yourself.'

This is his way of dismissing him, so I nod my head and wish him night and move to my chamber, all the while thinking what my father has planned.

I enter my room to find Mohini changed in a cotton saree and making the bed on the couch.

I go closer and ask,

'What are you doing?'

She whips around and looks at me with panic, then releases a breath. So I just say,

'You should be more aware of your surroundings.'

She just narrows her eyes so I indicate at the couch to ask what is she doing.

She points at herself, then makes a sleeping gesture and points at the couch.

'You are not sleeping here, I will sleep here, so go make yourself comfortable on the bed.'

I go to move move but she narrows her eyes and shake her head to indicate she is not going to sleep on the bed.

'I am going to freshen up and you will go and sleep on the bed like a good girl.'

She just glares at me. I go to the bathroom, wash my face, and change into soft cotton pyjamas and no kurta.

I enter the room to find Mohini sleeping on the couch, facing the other side. I knew she wouldn't listen to me.

She is easy to scare, but she is not one to follow orders. So I will just teach her a lesson. I lean into her ear and say with a low and breathy voice,

'Mohini.'

Her body turns tight, and then she whips around to face me, and her hands land on my bare chest. A burning sensation passes through me at her touch.

She looks at me with wide eyes, scared and then she does something which blew my mind.

She squeezes my chest. SQUEEZES!!! And also on her own. I didn't force her.

To hide my shock, I tease her,

'Ye kya kar rahi hai aap? Humne aapko uss waqt chunne ko kya keh diya, aapne toh siddha hath hi daal diya khane ke liye.'

'What are you doing? Just because I told you to choose that time, you took it seriously and put your hands on me to eat.'

Her eyes become wider, she removes her hand like they are on fire and flushes deep red.

The moment she removes her hand I feel a strange emptiness. I ignore it and say,

'I told you to sleep on the bed. Then why are you not on the bed?'

She shakes her head and again faced away from me. I am shocked at her audacity.

Nobody says no to me. Who does she think herself to be? So I ask one more time,

'So you won't go and sleep on the bed?'

She shakes her head. I repeat it one more time. She turns her looks me in the eye and slowly shakes her head like I am a toddler who can't understand.

First, she says no to me and then treats me like a toddler. I huff out a laugh at her audacity.

Then I bend and lift her in my arms. She gasps inaudibly and then tries to buck me off, but I hold her tightly. I lay her down on the bed. She backs away from me, and I say seeing her reaction,

'If you don't like me to touch you then don't force me to do it, since judging by your reaction you don't think I have any sense as to how appropriately touch anyone.

So be careful who knows what or where I will touch you next time.'

I back away from her leaving her guilty looking. I don't know why but it hurt me to see hers that reaction.

Without any word I lie on the couch and drift off to sleep.

I come awake with a start. The dream left a bad taste in my mouth. It's always the same, a repeat of my mother's death.

Some days the dreams come, some days they don't. I rub my face and try to forget my dream. I stand up and look out the window; it's still dark.

Its normal for me, I sleep in dark and wake up in dark. I look over at Mohini sleeping with a frown move to the other side.

It looks like she likes to move around in her dream.

I don't know what has even taken peace from her in her sleep, is it me, her father or something else?

I wrap white stolle around me and leave the room. I enter the training area and do exercise then sword practicing till morning rays spread in the sky.

I double check the preparations for the journey then go and take a bath.

After changing into clothes, I ask the attendee,

'Where is Mohini?'

The attendee replies,

'Bai-sa is with Badi Bai-sa waiting for you in temple hall, Yuvraj.'

I nod and move to the temple hall. The moment my eyes fell on Mohini, it felt like I was punched out of the air.

She is dressed in light pink and deep magenta lehenga, looking up at me with innocent eyes.

She moves back up to give me path but disbalances and goes to fall but I wound my arms around her waist and pull her close to me. Her hands lands on my chest.

Again a current passes through and one look at her confirms that she also felt that. She smells like spice, rose and heaven which is making very heady mix.

Someone clears their throat behind us. A flush comes to her face. I move, worship the God then take blessings of Bua-sa and Bapusaa.

I help Mohini to sit in the palki with Swati and our journey starts after bidding everyone farewell.

We travelled for whole day and it started to get dark since we had women with us, we decided to stay the night near the small pond.

I directed everyone to set up tent and kitchen. After everything is done I look around but I don't see Mohini anywhere.

I see Swati preparing for kitchen so I call her and ask her harshly,

'Where is Bai-sa? Why did you leave her alone?'

She instantly lowers her eyes in fear. For God's sake, I am not going to burn her alive.

She wasn't this fearful at the start. I don't know what Mohini told her that made her so fearful.

She hasn't been here this long, and she is already spreading rumors and making my people scared of me.

She replies,

'Bai-sa told me to leave her alone, she is just sitting by the pond.'

I nod and let her leave. I tell attendees to prepare our room.

I walk toward the pond and am mesmerized by the view. Mohini is sitting, leaning against the tree, petting a rabbit, and squirrels, rabbits, and birds are around her.

I lean and take in her beauty and serenity. After taking her beauty for so long, I finally ask her,

'So, you like to attract everyone around you, even animals.'

She doesn't get startled this time, so I wasn't too quiet in observing her.

Instead, she flashes me a beautiful smile and resumes petting. This is the first time I have seen her smile and that's too, at me.

Something squeezes my heart knowing she smiled at me.

I move toward her slowly so I don't scare away the animals. I sit down and mimic her pose. A squirrel comes to me, so I feed the nut to it.

We peacefully sit together, playing with the animals. At some point, she kept her head on my shoulder while playing.

I look down at her to see her sleeping, wind blowing her hair on her face. I gently remove the hair from her face, and in the process, my fingers touch her lips.

She is sleeping with no frown on her face; her lips are rosy and puffy, parted slightly.

I don't know from where the urge came but I just want to kiss, suck her lips and drink from her lips all day.

I don't know when, but slowly, she is becoming my addiction.

Swati comes, and her eyes become wide in fear. She fearfully tells me,

'Yuvraj, food is done. Please, you both come and eat.'

I nod and look down at Mohini. I gently caress her face and try to wake her up,

'Mohini, uthiye khana khane ka samay hogaya hai.'

'Mohini, get up. It's time to eat.'

She slowly blinks her eyes open, smiles up at me, then panic enters her eyes and she tries to scramble away from me.

She is just going to fall into the river when I catch her. I try to calm her down,

'Mohini, nothing is wrong; nobody is hurting you. I am here, calm down.'

When she focuses on my face, she slowly releases her breath and panic. She nods her head to indicate she is fine.

I stand up and offer my hand saying,

'Aaiye, khana taiyaar hogaya hai, khaate hai saath mein.'

'Come, the food is ready. Let's eat together.'

She looks at my hand, then at my face repeatedly, which gives me the perfect opportunity to make her flush,

'Khana khilane le jaa rahe hai, aapko nahi khane ja rahe hai, par agar aap chahti hai, toh baat dusri hai phir.'

'I am going to feed you, not to eat you, but if you want, then that is a different matter.'

She instantly flushes and looks around to see that nobody heard me. She quickly takes my hand and stands up, then dusts off her clothes.

I try to hide my smile, but it sneaks out, which she sees, glares at me, and walks away from me.

We both wash our hands. Attendees bring the food and keep it. We both sit down and eat the food in peace.

After changing her clothes, she lies down on the bed. I also change into my pajamas and lie down on the other side.

The instant I lie down, Mohini turns to me with shocked eyes. She points at me, then at the bed, and asking gesture to which I reply,

'If you would notice, there is no couch in the tent, so where would I sleep?'

Then, I close my eyes. But she pokes and indicates at herself, then at the floor. I say,

'You are not sleeping on the floor. It's just for one night, and I don't look so bad that you have to sleep on the floor.'

She calms down and shakes her head, then she points at my chest and at the clothes.

'Nahi, hum kapde nahi pehnenge, hume aise sona pasand hai aur agar aap chup chap nahi soyi toh hum niche wala bhi utar denge aur aapko pakad ke soenge.'

'No, I will not wear clothes. I like to sleep like this, and if you do not sleep quietly, I will take off the bottom too and sleep holding you.'

Her eyes flashes with desire, but instantly turned horrified at my suggestion, she narrows her eyes but lies down instead of questioning, facing other side.

She shakes for a long time, so I turn her to face me abruptly, saying,

'Chinta mat kariye jab tak aap khud nahi chahengi, hum kuchh nahi karenge.'

'Don't worry, as long as you don't want, I won't touch you.'

She quickly nods her head and moves away from me. I lie down, and her shaking stops; then I drift off to sleep,

A bright light shines on my face, I cover my face, then open my eyes and look around to see that it's morning.

I am surprised that for the first time, I have slept till a bright morning. I look down after feeling the soft weight on me.

I see Mohini's head on my face, her hands around me, and her legs tangled with mine. I remember how she moves from one place to another in her sleep.

I watch her for a long time, and I understand why I could sleep so peacefully. She is my little angel who helps me sleep.

She moves and opens her eyes. Seeing our position, she scrambles away and then glares at me.

I put my hands up in surrender, saying,

'Aap humare paas aayi, hum nahi. Bhul gayi aap neend mein yaha se waha ghumti rehti hai.'

'You came to me, not me. Did you forget that you move in your sleep from one place to another?'

She just narrows her eyes, walks backward, keeping an eye on me. I just make exaggerated surrender motions to indicate that I am not touching her.

I just smile and walk out of the tent to help people wrap up the tent and things.

I ask the attendee whether Bai-sa has taken a bath or not. She nods her head.

So I also take a bath, wrap a cloth around my lower side, and enter the tent, drying my hair with a cloth.

I look up, and my eyes collide with Mohini, who is trying to tie the knot of her blouse.

My eyes turned darker with desire, looking at her in such an innocent and disheveled state.

She moves her eyes away and feels the situation. She quickly presses her back against the mirror, lowering her eyes.

I look at her up and down and say lazily,

'Aapko lagta hai ki ye shisha aapko humse ya humari khayalon se bacha lega?'

'You think this mirror will protect you from me or my intentions for you?'
